Product Overview

The Metering Box Outlet Block 2-Gear is a specialized distribution terminal featuring a two-position (2-Gear) switching mechanism that allows the outlet circuit to be connected to either of two independent supply sources. Designed for metering box applications where dual-source or dual-tariff switching is required, it provides a compact, safe, and reliable method for selecting between two input circuits at the outlet point.
Understanding the "2-Gear" Function
The "2-Gear" designation refers to the two selectable positions of the internal switching mechanism:
Gear Position 1
The outlet terminal is connected to Input Source A (e.g., the main utility supply or normal tariff).
01
Gear Position 2
The outlet terminal is connected to Input Source B (e.g., a backup generator supply or off-peak tariff).
02
Switching Action
A rotary or lever actuator moves the conductive contact between the two positions, making a break-before-make connection to prevent cross-connection between sources.
03
Mechanical Interlock
The mechanism ensures only one source is connected at any time, preventing backfeed or short-circuit between sources.

Selection Guide for Metering Box Outlet Applications
Choose the 2-Gear Outlet Block when:
Dual Tariff Metering
The installation requires switching between normal and off-peak tariff circuits at the metering point.
Backup Power Switching
The outlet needs to toggle between utility power and a backup generator/UPS.
Maintenance Bypass
A bypass circuit is needed to maintain power while the main meter is serviced.
Load Shedding
Non-critical loads can be switched to an alternate source during peak demand periods.
For single-source applications without switching requirements, a standard (non-gear) outlet block is more cost-effective.
Applications
Dual-tariff residential and commercial metering boxes, backup power automatic/manual transfer points, maintenance bypass circuits in critical installations, and load-shedding systems in industrial and commercial buildings.
