How do you remove set screws?

 
1. Try a bigger wrench or Allen key. If a screw is stripped, sometimes using a larger wrench or Allen key can give you enough grip to loosen it.
2. Use a screw extractor. This is a special tool for removing tough screws. First, drill a small hole in the center of the stripped screw-make sure the drill bit is smaller than the extractor. Then, stick the extractor into the hole and turn it counterclockwise. It should grab onto the screw so you can pull it out.
3. Apply some heat. If the screw won't budge, try heating it up with a heat gun or propane torch. Heat the area around the screw for a few minutes, then grab it with a wrench or pliers and see if it comes loose.
4. Use pliers or vice grips. If part of the screw sticks out, you can clamp down on it with pliers or vice grips and twist it counterclockwise. Just be gentle so you don't scratch the surface around it.
5. Cut a slot in the screw. If there's room, use a rotary tool with a cutting disk to carve a groove across the top of the screw. Then, use a flathead screwdriver to turn it counterclockwise and take it out.
